The aims of the project are:

1) Digital map and data library of collected genotypes, which will be used in GIS analyses and monitoring of vital status of trees

2) Web site development for project introduction, distribution of mulberry trees presentation (maps), their history, cultural and natural value. Web site will allow collection of data from all site users, description of mulberry species characteristics

3) Analysis of morphometrical data, which is crucial for selection of superior genotypes

4) Gene bank of mulberry trees establishment for sustainable moriculture establishment

5) Testing of different propagation manners, pruning and ecological cultivation of mulberry trees

6) Analysis of primary and secondary metabolites in leaves and fruits, which will be used as basis for selection of superior genotypes for products

Project activities:
1) Location of old mulberry trees data collection, establishment of digital map and data base

2) Field work excursions for gathering plant material for cuttings (vegetative reproduction), leaves for molecular and biochemical analyses and herbarium collection

3) Propagation and conservation of old local mulberry genotypes from different eco-geographic regions on experimental field

4) Gene bank of mulberry trees establishment in permanent plantation

5) Qualitative and quantitative screening of important primary (sugars, proteins and amino acids) and secondary metabolites (phenolics, ascorbate, glutathione) in leaves of different local mulberry varieties

6) Usage analysis of products and manners of cultivation

7) Usage analysis of local products with high added value from mulberry fruits (juice, jam), leaves (tea, fodder) and wood (instruments, crafts).
